CUMMING, GA—Cooper & Company will be the Construction Manager for Gwinnett County’s newest library—The Hooper-Renwick Themed Library.

The Hooper-Renwick Themed Library will be a themed library facility preserving and honoring the legacy of the former Hooper-Renwick School through inclusion of architectural design elements and exhibits to showcase the history of the school. The project will consist of renovations of an existing historic school building to be used as a public library and construction of new additions which will be comprised of public library space and exhibit space.

The construction will be 25,000 square feet in total, which includes 11,400 square feet of renovated space and 13,600 square feet of new additions. Included in the construction will be structural, mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, electrical, low-voltage, specialty lighting, waterproofing, exhibit space, and site improvements including grading and landscaping. The City of Lawrenceville will be completing new streetscapes surrounding the project site and integration into these new streetscapes will also be included in the construction.

The renovated spaces will include restorations of some original building components such as windows and wood gym flooring. The new additions will include library space and exhibit space which will be designed in conjunction with a specialized exhibit designer in an effort to educate the community and preserve the history of the school and African American history and culture in Gwinnett County.

The project is to achieve a LEED Certified rating at a minimum per the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) LEED Version 4.1 rating system. Level of LEED certification to be determined during the design process.
