Harbins Elementary Addition completed for new school year

School is in session at Harbins Elementary School! The school celebrated its newly completed addition with a Grand Opening and Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony in September.
“No one can argue that this is not a beautiful and engaging learning space that you guys have created for us,” Principal Dr. Jimmy Lovett told Cooper & Company and the Gwinnett County Public Schools project team at the ceremony. “And we are infinitely grateful for that.”
The new addition at Harbins Elementary is a 42,000-square-foot, two-story expansion. According to Lovett, many of the building’s concepts, such as the collaborative spaces, furniture, and large windows, are firsts for Gwinnett County Public Schools. The addition also features two new special education classrooms. “These two special education classrooms have wonderful playgrounds designated just for them,” Lovett said. Students and faculty are also enjoying the learning staircase, which connects the two stories and serves as a central gathering place for students.
The Cooper & Company construction team was led by Project Manager Gary Goodman and Site Superintendent Pete Swanner. The project took 12 months to complete and was ready to go when students returned to school in August.
