Cooper is successfully underway on the expansion project for Lilburn Middle School in Gwinnett County.  The Gwinnett County Board of Education awarded the project to Cooper & Company back in March of 2017 with the anticipation of construction being able to take place during ongoing operation of the school by the students and staff of the facility during the year.

Lilburn Middle School is expanding due to growth to include a 3- Story classroom addition, demolition of an existing building, and modifications/ renovations to the existing middle school. New administration areas and 43 additional instructional units will be available in the 2019 school year.  Modifications of the existing classroom and office space will add a second Band Room Suite, Guidance Suite and new General & Science Classrooms. This project will also provide new finishes, HVAC, Lighting, Fire Alarm system and roofing when completed.

Project Manager Gary Goodman is overseeing the five-phase project for Cooper.  Gary expressed that this project was challenging in the fact that “we are paying special attention to safety on this project since the campus is currently occupied by students and staff.  Their safety is our number one priority.”

Wet weather conditions during construction, a small area of unsuitable soils, along with a very small usable area for staging have presented challenges during this project for Cooper.  However, the Cooper team has been able to overcome these challenges by ensuring detailed subcontractor coordination and altering the construction schedule where possible to make up for lost time due to ongoing soaking rains.
